June Theme: Upcycling Household Items
Welcome to our innovative STEAM camp where creativity meets sustainability! In our June camp, participants engage in hands-on activities that explore Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics, all while focusing on upcycling materials such as plastic, cardboard, aluminum cans, and glass bottles.
Throughout the program, campers will learn about the environmental impact of waste materials and how they can be transformed into useful and artistic creations through principles of engineering and design thinking. They'll experiment with various techniques to repurpose these materials, turning them into functional items or pieces of art.
- In the Science component, campers delve into the chemical and physical properties of different materials, understanding their composition and potential for reuse. In Technology, they explore innovative tools and methods for upcycling, including heat molding, cutting, and reshaping technologies.
- The Engineering aspect of the camp challenges participants to design and build structures, gadgets, and inventions using recycled materials, fostering problem-solving skills and creativity. They'll tackle real-world challenges, such as designing eco-friendly packaging or creating sustainable energy solutions.
- The Arts component encourages campers to unleash their creativity, using recycled materials as their canvas to express themselves through sculpture, painting, and mixed media projects. They'll discover the beauty and potential in repurposed materials, creating stunning artworks that convey powerful messages about sustainability.
- Finally, in Mathematics, participants apply mathematical concepts such as measurement, geometry, and patterns to plan and execute their upcycling projects with precision and efficiency.
By the end of the camp, participants will not only have a deeper understanding of environmental issues and sustainable practices but also gain invaluable STEAM skills and a newfound appreciation for the potential of recycled materials. Get ready to think outside the box and make a positive impact on the world at our STEAM upcycling camp!
Week 1: Plastic (bags and bottles) Projects
Week 2: Paper Projects (bags and cardboard) Projects
Week 3: Aluminum Cans and Glass Bottles Projects
Week 4: Mixed Individual and Group Projects
July Theme: Upcycling Old Electronics and Gadgets
In July, we focus on repurposing old electronics and gadgets through upcycling, transforming them into artistic masterpieces and practical household items. Throughout the camp, kids will explore the principles of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) as they dismantle old electronics, learn about their components, and discover how to repurpose them in imaginative ways.
In our workshops, children will learn about the environmental impact of electronic waste and the importance of recycling and upcycling to reduce it. Through collaborative projects, campers will work together to design and create artwork, furniture, and household items using salvaged electronic parts.
From sculptures made from old motherboards to lamps crafted from discarded wires and switches, the possibilities are endless. Our camp fosters not only technical skills but also creativity, problem-solving, and environmental awareness. By the end of the program, campers will have developed a deeper appreciation for the value of repurposing and the importance of sustainable practices in today's world.
Week 1: Repurpose into Art
Week 2: Repurpose into a Useful Household Item
Week 3: Reusing the electronic parts that still work
