Summer Reading Programs Guide for 2023

Keep 'em reading this summer

June 21, 2023

Keep Columbia kids reading this summer with a little help from one (or more) of these special programs. Sometimes they need a little nudge (no shame in the bribery game) to keep their noses in a book and these Columbia and nationwide programs should do the trick.

1. Columbia Public Library
Kids complete summer reading challenges and activities all summer long to earn rewards. Pick up a summer reading tracker at the library or bookmobile. Programs for kids ages zero-adults.

2. Barnes and Noble Summer Reading Program
Kids read any eight books this summer and record what they loved about them. Then bring the finished book journal to a Barnes and Noble store to receive a free book. Open to kids in grades 1-6. Print off your reading journal here or pick one up in-store.

3. Pizza Hut's Camp Book It
Track kids reading this summer on the Camp Book It website. When they hit their monthly reading goals they get a free personal pan pizza. Open to kids ages PreK through grade 6.

4. Scholastic Reading Home Base
Kids can access books online for free and attend character and author events. The more they read, the more experiences and rewards they unlock.

5. Sync Audiobooks for Teens
Kids ages 13+ can access two free audiobooks per week this summer when they sign up for the Sync summer program. Reading on the go!
